Growth

Growth is a beautiful thing. Whether it is physical, mental, emotional,spiritual-It is quite inspiring to watch. Nuturing your body, mind and soul is necessary for your development. Sometimes it is the things that scare us the most that ignite the biggest changes in us. It might sound silly, but being scared is a good thing. Being scared and challenging it, allows you to push out the confines of your comfort zone. It allows you to grow from the person you were in highschool, college or even your previous university. Use York University as the platform to challenge yourself. Take a Salsa class, enrol in Acting for non-majors,  join a club, laugh a little louder and lead with love. Attend a week long life changing leadership retreat that will not only challenge you but inspire you and propel you towards success. In fact write your own list of things you want to do. This list doesnt have to dabble in academics, in fact it can be completely out of the sphere of class. It can be completely wacky which is okay beacause you DECIDE! This is not about me, this is about you! Live the life you want and continue to make choices that will help you grow!
 Joyfully,
Joy

Believe in You

Dear You,
Do you realize you have all the potential in the world? Everything you every dreamed of is on the tip of your fingertips. It's so close that you can feel, smell, touch and taste it. Your senses become alive again taking in all this magnificent stimuli. It's novel, experiential, transitional and challenging. In fact, scrap that! Those words cant even fully describe how you may feel coming to York University. I'm sure you have thought about this moment for a long time. And the closer it gets, your anxiety level may be rising. The excitement is shooting up your veins and then it hits you like a ton of bricks. Doubt creeps in and tells you things that are not true. It tells you that you don't have what it takes. Let me bless you with some TRUTH! You are a star! You are uniquely made up of pure awesomeness that equips you with all you need to THRIVE in this environment. Keep shinning bright my fellow peer. I am here to walk this journey with you. Lets walk on the path where we can continue to redefine our possibilities.

Love Found

All the years before, I felt alone, isolated and unable to connect. I walked through the big cold halls with a vacant look in my eyes. I wasn't living my life the way I wanted to live it. My passion wilted because it lacked the necessary nurturing needed for growth. I woke up one day from years of being trapped in the darkness. My eyes opened and I came to the conclusion that I must take the first step towards love and happiness. I applied for a Peer Health Educator position at York and I was offered the position. I was overjoyed. I belonged somewhere. I had a team now that could support me.I walked through the halls, wearing my red and white proudly. My inner joy shined. I smiled, danced and spread my love to my community. Last year, I, Joy Simone, fell in love. I fell in love with the vibrancy, beauty and spirit of York University.
